Another summer draws towards an end. This kids are back in school, and there is a slight chill in the air in the mornings. Each year I decide on a new craft to bring with me, and this year I got out my tablet weaving cards. It’s been a few years, so it was fun to re-learn and to try new techniques. Tablet weaving takes a lot of space, and isn’t something you can just put down every time the children call, so it doesn’t make for a very good everyday craft.
I started with a relatively simple pattern, just to relearn the techniques. It started off a bit wobbly, but I soon go the hang of it.
Setting up takes a lot of time!
Oppsettet tar mye tid!
Once you have everything set up you can move out into to sun.
Next I tried a more complex pattern. It took quite a few tries before I got the hang of it.
In addition to crafting, we continued work on our beach.
We started this project when our son was 1, and figured he might want a beach to play on some day. Back then the forest came right down to the water, and there were lots of plants growing in the water, but we knew there was sand under there somewhere, so we set about digging. Some years we did a lot of work, and other years we did almost none. It has been ok for swimming the last couple of years, but this was the first year were there was enough good sand that the kids could actually play there.
I’ve never heard of table weaving before, that looks interesting!
It’s an ancient technique, mostly associated with the vikings, but it existed in other parts of the world too.
